International Thespian Excellence Awards

(Formerly known as Individual Events)

International Thespian Excellence Awards are the heart and soul of the Maine Thespian Festival.  Students have an opportunity to perform scenes, monologues or songs, or present technical theatre portfolios, in front of a panel of three theatre professionals who will give feedback and standards-based ratings.  Students who earn the top rating receive an invitation to present their work at the International Thespian Festival in June!

There is a fee of $5.00 per Thespy Event.

Students may select and present in two areas of performance or technical theatre and are rated using standards-based guidelines based on the new national standards developed by the National Coalition for Core Arts Standards (NCCAS).  Please read the National Individual Events Guidelines to understand the expectations of students (including appropriate material, dress code, etc.), and review the individual rating sheets for each discipline.  Timelines and format of presentation are important.  It is also important to select works that allow presentation in competition format (See the Green Light and Red Light lists).  Students are expected to prepare a "slate", giving their name, school, Thespian troupe if appropriate and name of the piece(s) being presented.
